We met Ana in September at the 2nd New York City Cowcus, where we had the chance to hear about her exciting documentary film, Really Delicious. Ana is Swiss-born, Brooklyn-based filmmaker who has been traveling across the country for the past 2 years interviewing people who are re-inventing the food system in America. Her subjects include Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms and Will Allen of Growing Power, as well as many other farmers, thinkers, and businesspeople. The film will start playing at festivals beginning in March.

After our meeting at the Cowcus, I requested an interview with Ana and she agreed to let Ulla and I stop by her studio. In these excerpts from the interview, Ana talks about why she decided to make this film, what she has learned from the experience, and her thoughts on the potential for this quickly growing grass-roots food movement to reach an effective tipping point.

Getting together to watch and celebrate the inauguration? This is the perfect snack for any small gathering! Indonesian beef satay is simple, elegant and delicious. I really love the La Cense flank steak, it is wonderful marinated and stir fried too. This recipe really celebrates this steak and because of the turmeric and soy sauce it has an exciting deep flavor.

Is There Change on the Horizon?

Our regional focus for the grass-fed party was so much fun! We hope you all enjoyed our regional recipes, interviews and issues because we certainly enjoyed all the research and the people we met and talked to. I found it to be not only fascinating, but it also reinforced how important our grass-fed message is to America.  It provides solutions to all the issues that we face: energy independence, astronomical health costs and the economic decline of our rural communities not to mention all the environmental issues that the production of our food has on our land and communities.
